Chicharon Bulaklak Surprise!

Ingredients:
  • 633g isaw (Pig intestine)
  • 1tbsp asin (table salt)
  • Oregano, basil, whole pepper corn (any herbs yah like)
  • Lara (Chilies)
  • Taba (Cooking oil)
  • Dipping: vinegar, lara and crushed bawang (garlic)
Procedure:
  1. Prepare the ingredients.
  2. Snip parts of the intestines so you can insert the herbs inside.
  3. Boil the intestines with 1 tbsp of salt for 10min.
  4. Prepare the intestine for the microwave. The idea here is to render the fat from the intestines and the drippings should stay on the bottom of the dish.
  5. Cover the dish with a cling wrap to seal the heat pressure.
  6. Set the microwave for 10min.
  7. Set aside the intestine (dry it out) while you prepare for deep frying.
  8. Make sure the oil is hot enough (250ºC).
  9. Fry the intestines until they puff up (3-5 minutes).
  10. Cut the intestines in serving size. I remove the middle part of the intestine.
  11. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  12. Serve with vinegar with lara and bawang.
The surprise there are the hidden chilies and pepper corns. While making “Toma” with your friends it adds thrill because you can never tell if the piece you’ll be eating has lara inside unless you open up the piece before you eat. My dad always gets the “hot pieces” and starts throwing “P !nas” around. But that didn’t stop him from taking another bite. Hehe they are like box of chocolates you’ll never know what you’re gonna get.
You can put any herbs yah like. It just so happens that I have more than enough oreganos and basil in my garden. The herbs in a little way counteracts the cholesterol.
Aside from the antiseptic properties of oregano it is also a good source of fiber. A diet high in fiber helps manage weight, reduces risk of colon cancer and increases breakdown of cholesterol in the body and it helps in indigestion. “Basil helps prevent free radicals from oxidizing cholesterol in the blood stream. Only after it has been oxidized does cholesterol build up in blood vessel walls, initiating the development of atherosclerosis, whose end result can be a heart attack or stroke.” http://www.whfoods.com. “Chilies have antioxidants that can destroy cholesterol which could cause major disease like atherosclerosis and other heart diseases.” - http://www.chilly.in/chilli_benefits.htm
I removed the middle part of the intestine because that is where the evil cholesterol lurks. My dad insisted on eating it. I can’t argue that it is the best tasting part so we both compromise.  I will let him eat it after I render more fat from it. It wasn’t a shock to see the result. Just look at the picture I got 38g of cholesterol from the 71g of the intestine’s middle part. I got 229g of cholesterol from the whole 633g of isaw!!! That’s Eiw! But you know you have to enjoy life sometimes. By the way everything is worth 1475 calories.

If you want shortcut just omit the boiling and go straight with the microwave.
  1. Season with garlic seasoning, snip, stuff in the herbs.
  2. Microwave.
  3. Deep-fry.
  4. Paper towel dry and serve with vinegar.

Pansit-pansitan Salad

I tried eating pansit-pansitan last night with balsamic vinegar and salt n' pepper. I didn't like the taste so to mask the icky taste I put on some crush peanuts, roasted garlic, olive oil and chili powder and it tasted great. According to this site www.stuartxchange.org it is a great remedy for rheumatic and arthritic pains among other things. So if you can bear with the "taste" and suffering from rayuma then go ahead and eat this crunchy succulent greens.

Inauguration of P-Noy anf VP

"The first step is to have leaders who are ethical, honest, and true public servants. I will set the example.

"I do not believe that all of those who serve in our government are corrupt. In truth, the majority of them are honest. They joined government to serve and do good. Starting today, they will have the opportunity to show that they have what it takes. I am counting on them to help fight corruption within the bureaucracy.

"From now on, mediocre work will not be good enough when it comes to roads, bridges, and buildings because we will hold contractors responsible for maintaining their projects in good condition.

"We will level the playing field for investors and make government an enabler, not a hindrance to business. This is the only means by which we can provide jobs for our people.

"I can forgive those who did me wrong but I have no right to forgive those who abused our people.
To those who talk about reconciliation, if they mean that they would like us to simply forget about the wrongs that they have committed in the past, we have this to say: there can be no reconciliation without justice. When we allow crimes to go unpunished, we give consent to their occurring over and over again.

"If I have all of you by my side, we will be able to build a nation in which there will be equality of opportunity, because each of us fulfilled our duties and responsibilities equally.

"Today, I am inviting you to pledge to yourselves and to our people. No one shall be left behind.
No more junkets, no more senseless spending. No more turning back on pledges made during the campaign, whether today or in the coming challenges that will confront us over the next six years. No more influence-peddling, no more patronage politics, no more stealing. No more sirens, no more short cuts, no more bribes. It is time for us to work together once more.

"You are the boss so I cannot ignore your orders. We will design and implement an interaction and feedback mechanism that can effectively respond to your needs and aspirations.

"You are the ones who brought me here—our volunteers—old, young, celebrity, ordinary folks who went around the country to campaign for change; my household help who provided for all my personal needs; my family, friends, colleagues at work, who shared, cared, and gave their support; my lawyers who stayed all hours to guard my votes and make sure they were counted; and the millions of Filipinos who prevailed, kept faith, and never lost hope – I offer my heartfelt gratitude.

"I will not be able to face my parents and you who have brought me here if do not fulfill the promises I made.

Movie Trailer from oxkimzx

While I was watching the series I thought the singer of this song (The Song of the wind) was a woman... I was so wrong. It could have fooled anyone. his (Jo Sung Mo) voice is so effeminate. The song was really great though I didn't understand what it means at first.

While watching, I can't help but picture or see filipino actors that look (slightly) of Moon Geun Young (Shin Yoon Bo) as Sarah Geronimo and Lee Joon (Shin Young Bok) as Allan Paule.

Just look
Shin Yoon Bo = Sarah Geronimo
The shape of the face is a like and I think the eyes are the biggest difference.

Shin Young Bok = Allan Paule
It's clear here that the only thing that make them slightly look-a-like is the mustache and the chubby cheeks.

5-10-2010 This is the moment!!!

  Automated Election

Now this part I didn't do. I was fortunate to have access to the internet and used the Precinct Finder of COMELEC.

Now that voting is automated, the biggest problem we've encountered is not on the voting itself but on the crowd control and the queuing system. Here, the voters are experiencing slight confusion on where line to fall in. The voters are sorted into 9 precincts per room which they termed as Clustered precinct. I think there are almost 1000 voters per room.No authorities are informing or assisting the voters on what to do. I think they (authorities) just assumed that voters know what to do because of the voter's education drives being broadcast or posted on various forms of media. The voters just took it upon themselves to organized the line. Although there are some run of the mill "balahuras and balasubas" (shameless people) who cut in the line, people posing as senior citizens and others. I even encountered a kapal muks (nervy) woman who stole a mineral water (intended only for the election officers). She brought her son with her. The kid asked her mother to give him water near the doorway. At first the mother asked an election officer if she can give a bottle of mineral water to her son. The officer politely said that she's sorry because the bottles are all accounted for the personnel (and besides there are refreshments stands outside of the precinct she can easily asked us to save her spot on the line.) The woman responded sheepishly with a smile but when the officer turns her back the woman took a bottle of mineral water. People saw what she did. She just responded with "hindi naman mahahalata" (I'm sure she won't notice) with a smug face as she handed the mineral water to her kid. Kapal muks talaga!!! The woman doesn't even look naghihikahos (poor) in fact based from what she's telling her friends (also in the line) she has a car and air-conditioned house. The kid at his age , he already understood what her mother has done. He'll grow up thinking  that taking advantage of other people is ok as long as they won't notice it. Now if these are our new generation, I can clearly see how our future will end up. I can't help but wonder if our corrupt politicians grew up with the same kind of parent's or guardians.

There are only 4 personnel. The man on the white shirt and the woman in pink shirt verifies the identity of the voter. The problem here is they are not organized. The voter's list are not arranged and because the verifiers are having a hard time looking for the name of the voter the list was unstapled so the voter's can help out in finding their names. Is this even allowed?

Then on the next table the woman in red shirt got confused with the voter's nagging and she because she can't handle the crown she allowed other voters to get their own precinct form to sign. There is no clear line. Both the in and out voters are mixed and the officers are having a hard time in controlling them.

The officer in charge of the voting area was having problems with disorderly voter's they don't surrender their folders to her. Instead they give it to people they know so they will be next to receive ballots even though there were already voters waiting in line. Markers were also pocketed. The officer was pleading to the voters to surrender the markers because they only have limited supplies and those are the only markers that will work on the ballots. Absolutely no consideration for other's properties.Witnessing these flares me up! In a perfect world, people are looking out for each other. But this world is not perfect so it is people looking out for themselves. How sad... Makarma sana kayo mga balahura. (Hope karma will bite you in the ass!)

Step 4 have to wait because in this picture the woman in white nervously laughing saying "hehe makulong naku po kanyan" (harhar I might get imprisoned now). She's the Tech Support from smartmatic. As she enters the room, she was on the phone describing to her supervisor what  went wrong with the PCOS machine. Actually, before the Tech Support arrived the machine only encountered paper jam after "nomnoming" (being fed with) 101 ballots. That is easy to fix says the IT specialist (just a voter) who is now reading the manual of the PCOS machine. We are both willing to help the officer to fix it but the Officer was reluctant because I think they are not allowed to troubleshoot the machine without the SmartMatic Tech Support which is totally understandable. As for the Tech Support it is not totally her fault. Base from media reports, almost all Tech support don't know how to troubleshoot the machines. That only means that the fault is on their supervisor or whoever is training them.

After they removed the back-up flash card and fix other stuff including shaking the ballot box (oh and by the way, we're told before that the ballot box should be translucent so that we can see the shadow silhouette of the ballot being fed... so what happened?).

After a few minutes, tuloy ang ligay (to be continued...) on with step 4.

Same with step 2-3 unorganized.

We started at 7:00 am finished at 10:47am. 3 hours and 47 minutes of patience in exchange for 6 years of (hopefully) worthwhile administration.

Despite all the can of worms we've took from our first ever automated election, over all it was not that bad. It's just natural to encounter problems from first time events. The next election, we will be more prepared and equip to handle problems that will arise. And also let's not forget that the "evil doers" also now know how the automation works; they can now create a new automated cheat system. We should not be complacent with the existing security features. After this election, COMELEC and Smartmatic should work on the disabled features of the machines and device a queuing system that will work.

Now that campaigning is over.

Who's gonna clean up this shit ?

Pampanga Election 2010

The  picture say's it all. It may help you choose your bet for the Gubernatorial Slot.

Fist on the list is Apung Carding...Umm who? Exactly!!! Next?!
Next we have a former Priest now Re-electionist Among Ed who wants to continue the crusade (isadsad ing Crusada) for Good Governance and transparency.
And lastly but definitely cannot be considered as the least is our  self- proclaimed Mother of Pampanga, wife of husband suspected Jueteng Lord, Kumare of President Gloria Magtatagal Arroyo, Former SP Board Member Lilia "Nanay Baby" Pineda who is offering compassionate and honest service to the Kapampangans.

Hmmm... try to decide try to decide if  I really want to go out and Vote...

Read also these articles so you'll know what the Kapampangans dealt with last administration.

In Pampanga, local elections heat up in yet another Panlilio-Pineda face-off

Before the beginning

Political candidates in Pampanga launch their campaign

After voting at our local school here I ended up voting no one for the

Gubernatorial slot. Last election I voted for Among Ed I swayed my

family and relatives to vote for him for good governance and

transparency but I didn't know we were also voting for his Provincial

Administrator Vivian Dabu.

My family said, "last election we tried your bet now lets try the other

one. Regardless if they do illegal business at least they are helping

the less fortunate with their money.

WoW! CAn you believe this???!!! Oh well we'll see. Based from experience life is not on black and white pictures like the silent movies before. Life is full of colors it add vibrancy and movement to our life especially if you view it in High Def.

Happy Mudrax's Day

Mother's Day Blessing with a friendly reminder from our local Gubernatorial Candidate (take note "reminder" not campaigning)

Fr. Mar of Good Shepherd Church bless all the mother's attending the mass.

It is the practice of our parish priest to invite local candidates to let us know about their campaign platforms after the mass. Each were given 5 minutes to give their speech. Last Sunday mass we have the Bacolor Mayoralty Candidates. One of them,
Jose Maria “Jomar” Hizon brought us a pasalubong (donation) a fire truck. Thanks Man! That coming out of your pocket really appreciated. Though appreciation won't mean it will equate to a vote.

Gubernatorial Re-electionist Among Ed Panlilio reminding us to vote wisely for tomorrow's election. He said we should not be swayed by our religious leaders in choosing our candidates. Hmmm... OK sure... Y not. haha.

While on our way home, we overheard people's reaction and comments as they received and read the flyers of Among Ed. One of them said "Sabi da ing paring ini potang ating manyad saup kaya sasabyan namu pangadi dana kayu mu pu. (They said this priest will only say "I will pray for you" if you ask for help)"
Wooh! Though crowd huh?! I've been hearing this a lot too. For me if the issue is going around for too long and in great numbers, then there must be a truth in it even just a speck.

By the way, Lilia "Nanay Baby" Pineda (Pampanga’s self-declared mother), should've been there so she can receive God's blessings. hehe ;)

Instant Gulaman

How to make instant Gulaman (Jelly)

Just follow the instruction in the packet of the Instant Gulaman you are using. ;P

I make this in 3 liters and store it in the fridge so I can have gulaman anytime I want. It is great for samalamig, halo halo, and buko pandan especially this hot summer days.

When I eat this it takes me back to my high school days when I eat a block of gulaman drizzled with condense milk served at the school canteen. I just can't remember if it is in Sacre or Chevalier. I guess both served this dessert.

In this batch I added green tea for added benefits (detoxifying). I usually eat this when I'm on a diet (It is 100% seaweeds called agar agar). I don't put sugar in it so there is no added calories. Every liter is only 73 calories that. I prefer this recipe as plain (no sugar) so that I can control the taste of the recipes that I will be using the gulaman. It has no calories, no carbohydrates, no sugar and no fat, and is 80-percent fiber. It absorbs glucose in the stomach, passes through the digestive system quickly and inhibits the body from retaining and storing excess fat. Its water absorbing properties also aids in waste elimination.
  1. Agar agar absorbs bile, and by doing so, causes the body to dissolve more cholesterol.
  2. Improves digestion and waste elimination.
  3. Reduce cholesterol and help you feel full, which will help you lose unwanted weight.
  4. Helps in controlling arthritis.

You're Beautiful

Just finish watching the series yesterday. I came across this on April 27, 2009. At first I was goggling for a summary story of Daisy Siete's Adam or Eve. After I've seen a commercial of their new series, I thought that the story was interesting. It's great that for a change they're delivering new and original stories and not a remake of some asian-novela or old tagalog movies (that they turned into series)... boy was I disappointed after reading this page.

So why will I settle for a copycat if I can enjoy the original. Thanks to "TheLunaticGirl" for the article.

My First Recycled paper

During my free time I tried making recycled paper. I learned it from watching youtube.

GreenParent and Paper Alice

For the reason of sentimentality and owe to mother nature to Reuse-Reduce-Recycle .

Here are the things that went to this blender and reduced into pulp.
  • receipts
  • correspondence
  • billing statements
  • used envelopes
  • onion dry skin (not the fleshy part)
  • garlic skin (not the fleshy part)
  • peanut skin
  • cashew skin
  • palaspas (palm leaves we used last palm Sunday)
  • brown paper bags
  • dried flowers and leaves from out garden
I think from 1/8 kilos of paper I've made 50 sheets of 8 x 11 sized papers

I used them as wrapping papers and stationery.

The end product... you can see it as my blog background... pretty huh? ;)

Not-So Happy Cat in a box :'(

My cat is been sick for a days now. She starter loosing tremendous amount of weight and you can easily see her bones. Though she eats and drinks a lot, she continuous to loose muscle mass. At first I gave her de-worming medicine nothing really happened. Didn't see any worms from her poop.

Today, she still eats and drinks but not like 3 days ago. She's loosing her balance and looks like she is having difficulty walking even standing. She usually stayed or sleeps in my bed but this past few days she starts "hanging-out" in cool dark places like closets and under my parent's bed. She was missing for 3 hours now. I've seen this symptoms before from my previous cats who eventually died. I know I have to accept the inevitable.

Part of grieving is accepting. Understanding things makes it easier to accept things that are out of my control. I've been reading articles about cats+dying from these links:

Instant Moodles

There is just no other instant food that can ever compare to noodles. I can eat instant noodles everyday... In hot or cold days noodles for me!

Too bad this one doesn't have my favorite siling labuyo (Bird's eye chili) the spicier the better.

Averrhoa bilimbi Shake

Popularly known as Kamias shake. Its too hot and I need something ice cold and slushy. We have leftover kamias in the fridge and they are perfectly ripe.

Here's the ingredients:
  • kamias
  • crushed ice
  • sugar
put all in the blender and VOILA!

Here, we usually use kamias when cooking Sinigang when we don't have tamarind at hand.

According to Mr. Wikipedia:

"In the Philippines, the leaves serve as a paste on itches, swelling, rheumatism, mumps or skin eruptions. Elsewhere, they are used for bites of poisonous creatures. A leaf infusion is efficient against or as an after-birth tonic, while the flower infusion is used for thrush, cold, and cough. Malaysians use fermented or fresh bilimbi leaves to cure venereal diseases."

Well, I don't know about venereal disease but I know it will do wonders on my cold and phlegm since it is pack with Vitamin C.
